DESCRIPTION

FUNDAMENTALS OF BOTANICAL DRAWING

This workshop is ideal for those wishing to learn a range of skills relating to drawing magnificent plants and flowers. Students will be given step-by-step instructions on how to establish realistic botanical drawings in graphite. The drawing process will be discussed in detail, along with exercises on gesture, contour drawing and blending techniques with graphite to produce three-dimensional form. The workshop is best suited to students with some drawing experience and an interest in botanical art.

Each day will include the following: Discussions relating to the drawing process – along with exercises on gesture, contour drawing and blending techniques to produce three-dimensional form. Step-by-step project page handouts, demonstrations and personal interaction with each student will provide continuity and structure to the workshop.

 

MATERIAL LIST:

  • 2 x Cold Pressed Hi-Art Peterboro #79 Illustration Boards (20 x 15 inches) (The boards are sold in a pack of four. Each board can be cut in half. You will need two to  three half boards)
  • Spiral-bound sketchbook for class exercises
  • Ring binder for handouts and notepaper
  • Graphite pencil sharpener
  • H, 2H, 6H, F, B, 2B & 4B or 6B graphite pencils
  • Magnifying glass
  • Kneaded eraser and pencil eraser
  • Mono Zero (Tombow) 2.3 mm round tip eraser
  • 1 sheet of graphite transfer paper
  • Selection of blending stumps, tortillons and soft makeup brush
  • Utility or Xacto knife / low-tack masking tape
