DESCRIPTION

This workshop is ideal for those wishing to learn a range of skills relating to drawing magnificent plants and flowers. Participants will be given step-by-step instructions on how to establish realistic botanical drawings in graphite. The drawing process will be discussed in detail, along with exercises on gesture, contour drawing and blending techniques with graphite to produce three-dimensional form. Step-by-step project page handouts (on a given plant subject), demonstrations and personal interaction with each student will provide continuity and structure. The workshop is best suited to those with an interest in botanical art and will provide a wonderful experience for both artists and nature lovers surrounded by exotic birds and exquisite gardens. Bring a camera and a packed lunch and enjoy the wonder of Whistling Gardens whilst learning the basics of this unique art form.

MATERIALS 

  • 1 Peterboro Hi-Art Cold Pressed #79 Illustration Board (20 x 15 inches)
  • Spiral-bound sketchbook for class exercises
  • Ring binder for handouts and notepaper
  • Pencil sharpener
  • H, 2H, 6H, F, B, 2B & 4B, 6B graphite pencils
  • Magnifying glass
  • Kneaded eraser and pencil eraser
  • Mono Zero (Tombow) 2.3 mm round tip eraser
  • 1 sheet of graphite transfer paper / low-tack masking tape
  • Selection of blending stumps, tortillons and soft makeup brush
