Red-breasted Nuthatch -- Sitta Canadensis
The Red-breasted nuthatch, Canada Nuthatch or Red-bellied Nuthatch
(Sitta canadensis) is a small, familiar songbird and a common resident of North America's coniferous forest habitats. The Red-breasted Nuthatch has short legs, a flat body, and a large head. The adult has bold black-and-white head stripes and reddish-orange underparts with a thin black bill and short tail (males are brighter than females). The Nuthatch will often climb upside down on tree trunks and branches probing for insects, spiders and seeds. It has a high-pitched and nasal call likened to a “tin trumpet.”
